  There's a man who lives in my apt complex who has an interesting relationship with his white poodle. He's a very stylish color coordinated dresser and he and his poodle wear matching outfits, sunglasses, hats and shirts. They are always together. it's amazing to see.

  today i am celebrating my first birthday after dutifully refusing to observe birthdays, thanks to the jehovah's witnesses.

  not for as many years compared with most of you, but enough, and worst of all was that i dutifully refused even to celebrate my grandchildren's birthdays.

  that hurt me far more than them.

  How'm I gonna spend my two bits at the five and dime?

  do you remember the five and dime stores?.

  whenever grandpa saw us kids, he gave us two bits (25 cents) each and, when feeling generous, four bits (50 cents).. back in the 50s, the late summer air was charged with excitement as we poor but studious urchins pored over what school supplies we would purchase with our then valuable coins.

  whether school supplies or toys or what nots were on the must-get list scribbled out in our heads, we could spend quite some time determining how to allocate our dough.. how about you?

  My favorite school supply was and I still can't collect enough of them scissors as a non tomboy little girl paperdolls were an endless fascination because of the scissors.

  oh and woolworths with those curious bottles of perfume "evening in paris" and the gaudy brooches in the jewelry counter.

  Hot dogs at the snack bar and everyone crowd in to the photo booth.
